19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after that period of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, comprising in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded break points in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional title, gained dominance to create a final set.

He saved four initial chances in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he secured the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
