Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Police report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then located many other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.

City officials said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the public for details.

An important representative said the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
